Unlikely fashion inspiration

Unlikely inspiration in the form of Samantha Ronson. Yes, yes, Lindsay Lohan's 'girlfriend', sister of Mark Ronson, and twin of designer Charlotte Ronson. She is British, 30yrs of age and a DJ. Lately, because of her constant exposure in connection with Lindsay, her 'man-style' is becoming more and more inspiring to me. Though her wiki pic is less than note worthy ...

Other outfits have been pretty cool, the kind of laid back, ultra-comfy boy style that I aim for when relaxing with friends or just chilling out

    

Oh, and I apologize for the excessive hand gestures AND Lindsay's presence in some of these pics. Sam Ronson may be cool, but Lohan makes me sick.

Risk Taker!

Diane Kruger is constantly featured in magazines, and why? She's 'acted' 'modelled' at bit etc... also she has worn tons of designer clothes I would die for. However, I have never before looked twice at her choice of clothing (wait! ok once before, Chanel Resort show - see previous posts). Obviously I have never been a fan, but I think that may have to change. Due firstly to her outfit at the resort show, AND, because of this - what she wore to the Longchamp 60th anniversary party. Ahhh! Love! And she took such a risk, because the women in the world today that could pull that off can be counted on one hand.

Vogue

Though I'm not a big fan of the modern Madonna (neither her fashion sense nor songs), I must admit back in the day, she epitomized the fabulous 80s. And, her daughter Lourdes Leon, at the mere age of eleven is already living up to her mum's fashionista status. Most girls in their tweens want to dress just like Lindsay Lohan, or Miley Cyrus. Yuck. However! Lourdes Leon takes inspiration from the 80s and always looks damn cool. At eleven I dressed like a bum. Have to say I'm a little jealous of this tween's natural style.

Icon! Kate Lanphear

I couldn't resist leaving a last post before I go away for a few days, which, of course had to be about my current style icon. Kate Lanphear is style director at US Elle, and her work is beginning to become the focus of the magazine for many. This is one shoot she styled I have tracked down, which is far edgier than the US market is used to (more of a Vogue Paris/Espana feel) and I looove it!

However, her style is the main concern of this post and that too is remarkable. She dresses how I wish I could dress, in black, white and grey; with masculine pieces and huge gorgeous heels. As I've learnt, it's incredibly hard to pull off masculine outfits, with short hair, while still looking feminine; but she is a master of it.

Givenchy

I've been looking through the new fall/winter ad campaigns and so far the majority have been rather disappointing. Though it is hard to judge when I don't see them as a hard copy. We will just have to wait until Vogue UK August is out, which is v soon! Burberry seems empty without it's fabulous group shots, and the lack of Agyness is also depressing. So far, my favourites consist of Emporio Armani, which i showed previously, and Givenchy! 

No high quality shots released yet, but i got these two from LeBook. 

The ads were shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Genius! So simple but (oh god I'm quoting Tyra Banks) so fierce! 

The ads feature an amazing collection of models ... 

Maria Carla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, Lakshmi Menon and Kristen Owen 

The creative director, Riccardo Tisci, explained the campaign ... 

"I chose these five women that represent elegance, feminity and masculinity with character. I chose Natasha, Lara, Maria Carla, Kristen, Lakshmi. It is a family potrait. The campaign is in black and white to represent Givenchy colours: no special effects, as it is about the personality of the girls. I wanted them to be natural, the way they would dress, do their hair and make up everyday. This best reflects their high sensuality, feminity and strong masculinity. The idea was to use girls from different nationalities. After Liya Kebede from Ethiopia (in the Fall Winter 2006 campaign), the new Givenchy star for the Fall Winter 2008 is the Indian model Lakshmi Menon. It is the seventh season that Givenchy works with Inez and Vinoodh, together we found the language and attitude of the Givenchy world." 

I will be sure to do a follow up on these girls, I already love Maria Carla, Natasha and Lara but Lakshmi and Kristen deserve some research.

One point, wouldn't Freja have fit into this campaign perfectly? :( ah if only. 

The Wayfarer

The wayfarer style of Raybans have been everywhere for months, i love them but i didn't want to feature them because they have become so widespread and are therefore beginning to loose their appeal for me. However, this picture on turnedout.tv was irresistible. 

There's a matching wayfarer badge on her blazer! Adorable!
